After the acquisition of a local startup, the Yellowstone team partnered with an international technology firm to bring their Ann Arbor office space up to the same high standards as the rest of the company. Expanding from a small office space to nearly 7,500 square feet in historic Nickels Arcade, the client sought to create an environment that enabled their teams to work and meet with colleagues around the world, while still maintaining a distinct sense of place in one of Ann Arbor’s most historic buildings.

The expansion added multiple teleconference-enabled meeting rooms of varying sizes, from single-occupant call rooms to a pair of conference rooms each accommodating over a dozen people. We designed appropriate acoustical treatment preventing sound transmission, as well as reducing echo and reverberation within rooms – while maintaining an open and collaborative feel to the space. This project also features a large break space equipped with a foosball table, in-counter kegerator, and multiple screens on which the staff can cheer on their local soccer team (Go Mighty Oak!).

Separated from the meeting and break spaces by a dramatic illuminated portal, the main office area in this space features height-adjustable desks with minimal panel systems to increase the feeling of openness and transparency. Visual connection to the rest of the space was re-established by cutting in two large picture windows and installing a custom millwork cable tray that runs the length of the space, from the open office area through the main corridor, and terminating above a custom wall graphic of a vintage postcard promoting Ann Arbor tourism.
